Cortina is on eBay , it's been a long journey and we have all enjoyed it , but it's time for a new project, it would be nice to keep it but the car, but no it's on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272381537251

Escort Twin Cam

1969 escort Twin Cam

This was going to be our next project , last rallied in 1985 only to meet its demise smashing through a drystone wall on a hump back bridge near on the through of Bowland , still got the log book , was trying to find out if it was a proper twin cam and rebuild it to original spec ...anyway just finally managed to research the numbers on the chassis plate this was the answer I got back
Simple answer to your question is no WHJ 525J is not a genuine Twincam. It may have started out life as a genuine car, but it would have been re-shelled at some point. Or could have been a new build from a service shell. It was registered on 3rd August 1970 with a chassis number beginning ICBA which stands for Inter Company Buying Authority, basically it was used within Ford for selling body shells instead of complete cars. This information was designed to be used by Ford & only appeared on the body tag on a service shell.
As people used to buy service shells quite often from Ford, either to build a new rally car or to re-shell an original, they would use this number to register the car as it would normally be the only visible number on the body.
In your case the chassis number is  ICBA0487XX the letter I is usually typed as a number 1. If it was a genuine Twincam the chassis number would have started BB49 or BBAT if built after October 1970.

How disapointing !!!!!.....I had just bought  some twincam domains ...ah well just bought the domain www.escortmk2.com now looking for a good Escort mk2 ...anybody got an interseting car ???

cortina mk2 respray

Boot Lid Finally Gets Some Paint

finally got some paint on the boot lid ... this was a 0.99p win on ebay so makes it feel even better

Wednesday 13 June 2012

ford classic

check out the still visible id number , this car is totally original all numbers matching (including the engine number) matching the original log book ....how good is that !!!!

cortina

how good does the engine bay look , 2 coats of silver fox top coat , and 3 coats of laquer , better than when it came out of the factory

ford cortina

The car is finally in the spray shop for its top coat , we have spent the past few months flatting the paint only to spray more on , then rub it off again ??? must admit the finish on the body is amazing , it looks like plaster.. every line is perfect , every imperfection has been removed all gaps are bang on , all the panels line up perfectly ...but god its took some time ...anyway spraying in the engine bay first and the inside of the boot lid...

Cortina 1600 e parts

We have left Simon doing the top coat , and moved onto the suspension , everything has been blasted etch primed and painted it will look so good against the silver underneath , just replacing the bearings on the half shafts and checking out the diff ,

ford cortina refurb

Not posted for a long time , but we have been very busy, the shell has had all the major bodywork done now the interior has been etch primed , primed ,two coats , top coat and laquered. The underneath is just as good !!! The main bodywork is now in primer , but we have flatted the paint work about 3 times ..it is immaculate ready for the top coat , cannot believe how much time this has taken , Simon the sprayer wants this paintwork to be the best ever, and show winning car so everything has to be perfect , we spend all day flatting the paint, to rub away all minor inperfections , then he sprays some more on and the process starts all over again, must admit it looks bloody good !! The bonnet has taken an exceptionally large amount of time so the panel appears absolutely flat and perfect
. The doors had a few minor holes at the bottom so we have lead filled any holes and now
they are like new ,
The boot had a dent in it so it was back to ebay , hell the prices are high , but found one with no bids on it , the guy had listed it wrong , a quick
99p bid and it was mine !! he didnt look to happy when i picked it up , but i gave him a quid , and collected and it was like brand new !!!

cortina Refurb continues

we have started preparing the car for the respray , we have striped the paint from all the body work , its down to bare metal all over , the metal work is amazing , no rust , just a few minor dents that need some repair work , trying to prepare the boot area is a nightmare some kind sole has sprayed it in rubberised tar based product ...so hard to get off , but it has to be done to get a decent finish

Nearly time for the etch primer coat ,
