Escort Twin Cam

1969 escort Twin Cam

This was going to be our next project , last rallied in 1985 only to meet its demise smashing through a drystone wall on a hump back bridge near on the through of Bowland , still got the log book , was trying to find out if it was a proper twin cam and rebuild it to original spec ...anyway just finally managed to research the numbers on the chassis plate this was the answer I got back
Simple answer to your question is no WHJ 525J is not a genuine Twincam. It may have started out life as a genuine car, but it would have been re-shelled at some point. Or could have been a new build from a service shell. It was registered on 3rd August 1970 with a chassis number beginning ICBA which stands for Inter Company Buying Authority, basically it was used within Ford for selling body shells instead of complete cars. This information was designed to be used by Ford & only appeared on the body tag on a service shell.
As people used to buy service shells quite often from Ford, either to build a new rally car or to re-shell an original, they would use this number to register the car as it would normally be the only visible number on the body.
In your case the chassis number is  ICBA0487XX the letter I is usually typed as a number 1. If it was a genuine Twincam the chassis number would have started BB49 or BBAT if built after October 1970.

How disapointing !!!!!.....I had just bought  some twincam domains ...ah well just bought the domain www.escortmk2.com now looking for a good Escort mk2 ...anybody got an interseting car ???
